On July 20, 2018, the Prime Minister of Uganda, His Excellency RUHAKANA RUGUNDA, inaugurated the new headquarters and visited the construction site of the sewage treatment plant of the National Water and Sewerage Corporation, the Water and Sanitation Utility of Uganda. This ceremony was attended by many guests including participants in the 79th meeting of the Scientific and Technical Council of AfWA.
In his welcome address, the Managing Director of NWSC, SILVER MUGHISHA expressed his deep appreciation to the Prime Minister for his availability and for having found time to participate in that important ceremony. He emphasized the importance of government support that enabled his team to improve the company’s performance. He also noted the progress NWSC has made in recent years in improving access to water and sanitation services for a high proportion of the population. Finally, the Managing Director pointed out the very good collaboration between NWSC and African water utilities, an opportunity to share experience and good practices. These good relations led notably to the signing of the cooperation agreement with ONEE (the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water) of Morocco.
For his part, the Prime Minister commended NWSC for the excellent work done in Uganda to provide quality water and sanitation services and to facilitate the access of all categories of the population to those services. He encouraged NWSC to continue its good relationship that the company maintains with other players outside Uganda. Concerning the new sewage treatment plant that he visited, the Prime Minister welcomed the construction of the plant as he said that the city of Kampala has many septic tanks and that the construction of this treatment plant in Kampala and beyond will help improve sewer management and thus clean up the environment. The Prime Minister called on NWSC to take great care of the plant and to build more.
It should be noted that during this ceremony, NWSC launched its 2018-2021 strategic plan.
