Beginning this Monday, July 16, 2018, in Kampala, Uganda, of the 79th session of the Scientific and Technical Council of the African Water Association under the theme: Harnessing Information and Communication Technologies to accelerate sustainable access to water and sanitation for all in Africa.

The opening ceremony, chaired by the Ugandan Minister of State for Water and Environment, was followed by the inauguration of the exhibition and the visit of the 27 exhibitors’ stands.

The day continued with the presentation of various innovations in the field of ICT to accelerate access to water and sanitation for all in Africa. For example, the National Water and Sewerage Corporation of Uganda, SODECI-Côte d'Ivoire and SWAZIWATER of Swaziland followed one another. Technical conferences that followed gave the opportunity to several partners to show their innovations: first ITRON solutions to harness and sustain access to water for all Africa; then the case study proposed by SANERGY to: build safe and smart cities by integrating non-sewerage approaches compliant with SDG’s 6.2 and finally the presentation on new electrochlorination unit for smaller plants by EVOQUA-France.

In the participants’ opinion, although busy, the day, was rich in lessons regarding the quality of the interventions. To end the first day, a cocktail was offered by the NWSC in the gardens of the International Resource Center.
