AfWA organizes a Master Class in Luanda on Innovative Approaches in the Management of Faecal sludge

The African Water Association (AfWA), in collaboration with the Angolan Water Society (EPAL), organised from 14 to 17 August 2017, a Master Class in the Angolan capital, Luanda. This training session planned for the work of the Scientific and Technical Council of AfWA was intended for the attention of water and sanitation professionals. Based on the theme: Faecal Sludge management: technical and social innovations, this Master Class brought together nearly 40 participants, including two representatives of one of the 18 water companies in Angola.

This Master Class aimed to strengthen the capacities of companies or municipalities on the technical and social innovations in the management of faecal sludge. Following the traditional welcome delivered by the Chairman and Managing Director of EPAL, Dr. Papa Samba Diop, Chairman of Specialised Committee 3 of STC and also representative of AfWA, reiterated the Pan-African organisation's desire to multiply sessions on Capacity building for its members through the sharing of experiences, training and master classes.

Through a series of presentations and communication followed by exchanges, the participants were able to improve their level of knowledge of the value chain in the management of faecal sludge as well as the innovations developed for the sector. The ultimate vision being to equip these sanitation professionals with the necessary mechanisms for a good coordination of faecal sludge management program. Outside this training, the participants took part in a field visit to discover EPAL facilities for sludge treatment.
