The 25th edition of the World Water Day was celebrated this year in the region of Thiès on the theme "Wastewater". The ministerial delegation which presided over the event was led by Mr. DENE FAYE, Secretary of State for Rural Water, the Representative of the Minister of Water and Sanitation and the Minister of the Armed Forces, Mr. Augustin TINE.
Together with members of the sector, administrative and local authorities, students and the ONAS Women's Association, they visited the Keur Saib NDOYE Wastewater Treatment Plant, which collects and treats all the city’s wastewater. The purified water and the sludge resulting from this treatment are then used by market gardeners of the Keur Sib NDOYE village for their agricultural needs. The delegation noted the re-use of the by-products and their contribution to market gardening, agriculture and floriculture on the areas next to the Station.
Agricultural areas have increased considerably in Keur Said NDOYE thanks to the by-products of ONAS (purified water, stabilized sludge as fertilizer), said Mr. Ibrahima NDIAYE, President of the Association of Keur Said NDOYE Market Gardeners. As a prelude to the World Water Day, the Ministry of Water and Sanitation (MWS) organized a hike to launch the activities of March 22, 2017. On this occasion, all the bodies under the MWS (ONAS, DGPRE, SONES, SDE, OFOR, OLAC) met for a walk from the ‘’African Souvenir Place’’ to the ‘’Mosque of the Divinity’’.
