Djibouti celebrated the World Water Day as everywhere else in the world on March 22, on the UN-WATER theme "Wastewater, the Untapped Resource". However, the National Office for Water and Sanitation in Djibouti adapted it to the context by calling it "Reuse of Treated Wastewater".
In fact, approximately 2,000 m3 of wastewater treated at the ONEAD treatment plant will be sold to an agricultural cooperative known as Douda Fiian. This project, spearheaded by the Ministry of Agriculture, consists in developing 40 plots of 0.5 hectares.
Meters will be installed on the irrigated area in order to sell treated wastewater for market gardening purposes. This area will be equipped with a drip irrigation system to be set up by the Global Climate Change Alliance Project with EU funding for greenhouse operators.
