The second capacity building session for water utility laboratory auditors brought together over 30 professionals from the sector in the Ghanaian capital city, Accra. The session takes place to February 27, 2017 until March 2nd, 2017. The beneficiaries of this training included about fifteen auditors from several West African countries, namely Benin, Burkina Faso, Guinea Conakry, Mali, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Togo and Côte d'Ivoire.

This learning session on best practices in water quality control laboratories follows the one previously organized in October 5 to 7, 2016 in the same city of Accra. The aim is to provide practical and in-depth training on laboratory management and responsibilities, best laboratory practices and procedures for collecting and conserving water samples. The second major objective of this activity is to achieve the production of a laboratory quality manual specific to laboratory operations of the countries covered by this program. The training, funded by the United States Agency for International Development - West Africa Regional Office (USAID WA), is organized in partnership with AfWA (African Water Association), US EPA (United States Environmental Protection Agency), FIU (International University of Florida), and GWCL (Ghana Water Company).

This is part of the AfriCap program of the African Water Association. A four-year program financed by USAID WA, one of the objectives of which is to equip water quality control laboratories in West Africa, specifically in Ghana and Burkina Faso, with skills and expertise to significantly improve the quality of the water provided to the populations in West Africa countries.
