Invited by the World Toilet Organization, the Executive Director of AfWA took part in the 15th World Toilet Summit held on October 26, 27 and 28, 2016 in the city of KUCHING, Malaysia. During this event, the Executive Director was invited to present two lectures on "Water and Sanitation: The Two Pillars of Health and Hygiene in Africa" and "Development of Sanitation in Rural Areas through Microcredit and EcoSan Toilets".

The World Toilet Summit is a unique global annual event bringing together various players in sanitation and inviting them to collaborate on innovative inventions, projects and products in the sanitation sector.

The Executive Director of AfWA, Mr. Sylvain USHER, had already attended a conference organized by the China National Tourism Administration and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (FBMG) in May 2016 in YIWU, China. He was invited to speak at a panel discussion. On the sidelines of this conference, he met with the Founder of the World Toilet Organization, Mr. Jack SIM, in the presence of representatives of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. They spoke of the possibility for Africa to join the World Toilet Organization through the African Water Association, through the creation of national toilet organizations, the aim of which would be to create national platforms entirely dedicated to the development of sanitation, and especially toilets, for the achievement of sustainable sanitation development objectives in Africa.
