Networks of professional women in the water, sanitation and hygiene sectors must now include the one from Djibuti. Indeed, the professional women of Djibuti, aware of the crucial role they have to play in the sector, have decided to create their network: REDFEPEA or Réseau Professionnel des Femmes Djiboutiennes de l'Eau et de l'Assainissement (the network of professional women in water and sanitation). The official launching ceremony presided over by the Director General of the Djibuti National Water and Sanitation corporation, Mr Mohamed Fouad Abdo, took place on Monday 16 April 2018 in the presence of all ONEAD staff and representatives of the tutelage Ministry. Mr. Fouad expressed his support for the creation and launch of this association consisting mainly of professional women. Like the African Water Association, the initiator and promoter of this "movement" of African active women in the field of water and sanitation, he stressed that the notable advances in the sector are attributable to gender involvement.
Mrs Mariam Ahmed Abdallah, Commercial Director of ONEAD and President of REDFEPEA, expressed on behalf of her colleagues, her gratitude to the Director General for having confidence in them. For her, the creation of the network and "the choice of the logo perfectly represents the construction site at the heart of our actions and our will to work in the fields of water and sanitation with active associations and women dedicated to these causes". Just set up REDFEPEA is actively preparing an awareness campaign on the control of waste and water discharges on public roads.
