On Saturday 24 March 2018, Bureau members of the SONEB Female Workers’ Association (Amifa-SONEB) were changed. It was during the Association’s 2nd Ordinary Congress organized with great pomp at SONEB’s Water Professions Training Centre in Akpakpa, Cotonou. Placed under the patronage of Mr. Samou Sidiou ADAMBI, the Minister of Water and Mines (MEM), and effectively chaired by SONEB’s Acting General Manager Lucien AVOHOUEME, SONEB women's delegations from all of Benin’s departments actively participated in the event. More than two hundred women took part in the General assembly to especially review actions carried out in recent years, validate the association’s statements and programme of future actions, as well as elect a new bureau in accordance with the by-laws. Some SONEB officials who came to support them were present at the event. Following the proceedings that lasted for one day, a new 9-member Bureau was elected to manage Amifa SONEB’s affairs for the next three years. Following voting to fill vacant positions, Mrs. Sonia ACCROMBESSI, an accountant by training, was declared winner and took over leadership of the AMIFA-SONEB Bureau. She pledged to meet the new water and sanitation sector challenges and work for more women's involvement in drinking water management. The outgoing AMIFA SONEB President, Mrs Nafissath AROUNA, was congratulated by all for her commitment. In her address, she thanked the national political authorities for the support the association received during her term of office. She outlined the many AMIFA SONEB contributions and actions towards the population and expressed the wish that the commitment of women and their efforts towards the company’s development and good management should not falter.
