ABIDJAN 2014:The Local Organizing Committee makes an assessment of the preparations
|
During the Scientific and Technical Council (STC) meetings held in Conakry on November 6th 2012, the representative of the Local Organizing Committee -SODECI - of African Water Association (AfWA) 17th Congress scheduled in Abidjan, Olivier Gosso, made an assessment on the statement of progress of the Congress preparations.
In his presentation, Mr Gosso informed that the site selected to host the 17th Congress would be Hotel Ivoire, one of hotel flagship. In addition, he presented the proposals for the Congress logotypes submitted to the validation of STC members. He also pointed out that the Congress website has been designed and should be put on line in the days to come.
It is worth mentioning that SODECI has launched the invitation to tender regarding the selection of the service provider responsible for organizing the Exhibition.
The theme of this 17th Congress is “Mobilizing Resources and Governance of Water and Sanitation in Africa”.

ADMISSION : 2IE Institute elected as member of the World Water Council Board of Governors
|
The International Institute for Water and Environmental Engineering (2IE) has been elected as member of the World Water Council (WWC) Board of Governors during the triennial General Assembly held in Marseilles on November 18th 2012.
The interests of the African continent over the next three years representing the term of this new Board of Governors will be defended by both 2IE and African Development Bank (AfDB) respectively elected within college 5 including professional organizations and academic institutions, and college 1 of intergovernmental institutions.
On the whole, 36 governors over 64 suggested candidatures have been elected by the members.

SENEGAL : Elhadji Abdourahmane Diouf takes over from Ibrahima Diallo the management of SONES
|
Elhadji Abdourahmane Diouf has been appointed Managing Director of the Société nationale des eaux du Sénégal (Senegal National Water Utility) in replacement of Ibrahima Diallo during the Council of Ministers held on November 8th 2012.
Mr Diouf is a lawyer and holds a PhD in International Economic Law.
Established in 1995, SONES is responsible for managing the urban hydraulic patrimony and to monitor the operating of water in Senegal.

PUBLICATION : A Senior Executive of SODECI shares the experience of water utility service in war time
|
Last November 13th 2012, the Internal Operations Manager of SODECI (Cote d’Ivoire Water Utility), Yoboué Descord Venance made the dedication of his book published in 2011 by CERAP editions and entitled “Drinking Water Utility Service in War Time: Case of Cote d’Ivoire”.
In this 135 pages book, Mr Yoboué presented the practical experience of SODECI with regard to its mission of operating and distributing drinking water during the Ivorian political and military crisis (2002-2008).
This book is an academic case of risk management applied to drinking water public service.
