WOP-Africa: Call for candidatures for the post of coordinator
|
A call for candidatures has been launched by the African Water Association (AfWA) for the recruitment of a coordinator for the Africa Water Operators Partnership Programme (WOP-Africa).
The coordination of this important programme for building the capacities of water and sanitation utilities is temporarily ensured by the AfWA Projects Manager, George Acolor, following the departure of the incumbent, Dr Koné Doulaye.
WOP-Africa, initiated by the United Nations, is jointly implemented by the UN-Habitat, the Global Water Operators’ Partnerships Alliance (GWOPA), the African Water Facility of the African Development Bank and the International Water Association (IWA).
Candidates with a minimum managerial experience of about ten years in the water and sanitation sector are invited to submit applications together with their CV latest by 23 April 2011 to:

CAPACITY BUILDING: Training seminar on communication scheduled for May ending in Rabat

A training seminar on communication strategies in water and sanitation utilities, organized by the African Water Association (AfWA) in collaboration with the Office national de l’eau potable (ONEP), will be held from 23 to 27 May 2011 in Rabat (Morocco).
The purpose of this capacity building seminar is to enhance the capacities of communication agents in the new communication requirements and appropriate strategies for further improving the efficiency of water and sanitation utilities.
It will enable the participants to exchange their experiences in the organization, strategy and management of communication.

Cote d’Ivoire: SODECI facilitates access of 500,000 inhabitants of Abobo to drinking water
|
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) escorted two tankers of the Société de distribution d'eau de la Côte d'Ivoire (SODECI) all the way to the Abobo water treatment plant, a major district of Abidjan affected by violent clashes. The tankers carried 15 tons of lime, an indispensable product for treating water. The entire population of Abobo and neighbouring district of Anyama, representing more than 500,000 people, according to estimates by SODECI, depends directly on this station for its water potable supply.
“Fearing for its security, the driver was no longer prepared to transport chemical products to the Anonkoua Kouté potable water treatment station at Abobo”, said Dominique Liengme, Head of the ICRC delegation in Abidjan. “This action, executed at the request of SODECI, was facilitated by the good relations that our organization has with all the parties”. In fact, the ICRC obtained the security guarantees required for escorting the tanks to Abobo.
“It was urgent that these products reached the factory, otherwise we could not guarantee the quality of the water”, explained an official of SODECI.
