AfWASA in Helsinki: A Major International Turning Point
Invited to the 7th ASEM Seminar on Urban Water Management (Helsinki, May 27-28, 2026), the African Association of Water Experts (AAEA) made a lasting impression with a participation that fully matched its ambitions. Before an audience of high-level decision-makers from UN agencies, governments, and academic institutions across Asia and Europe, the AAEA embodied the missing link of a tripartite Asia-Europe-Africa cooperation framework, now poised to shape the future of global water governance. The Association also shared its expectations regarding solutions capable of strengthening and enhancing the performance of water utilities across Africa.

A landmark moment of the event was the signing of a collaboration protocol with ASEMWater, cementing a strategic partnership that concretely bridges three continents and paves the way for large-scale scientific and technological exchanges. The AAEA also significantly expanded its network across Europe and Asia, further solidifying the foundations of this unprecedented intercontinental alliance.
Finally, the AAEA officially launched the promotion of its 24th International Congress, scheduled for February 2028 in Senegal, generating remarkable enthusiasm among the international community a powerful testament to Africa's place at the heart of the Asia-Europe-Africa dialogue on water challenges.
